NCDMV’s Helpful Hints

 Plan ahead. Call your local Driver License Office to make an appointment several

weeks in advance. (You can renew your license up to 6 months before your birthday

renewal date!)

 Visit us EARLY. Early morning and early afternoon are our least busy times.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are great. (Avoid a lunch time visit – 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

 Save time and gas. Check on offices located close to your work or en route between

home and work. (You may find an office you didn’t know about!)

 Search next door. If your closest DMV is busy, visit an office in a county next door.

(You can renew your license at any North Carolina Driver License Office!)

 Bring the right stuff. Before you leave home, make sure you have the correct

documents to get your driver license.

 You’re one in 6 ½ million! Remember, there are millions of drivers in North Carolina,

and NCDMV wants every one of you to drive safely and know the rules of the road. Go

online to download the driver’s handbook.

 Remember Saturday hours! Some offices located in Charlotte, Raleigh,

Greenville, Fayetteville, Durham, Asheville, Greensboro, Jacksonville,

Monroe and Wilmington are open each Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon. Offices are

open the first Saturday of each month in Manteo, Wilkesboro, Ahoskie,

Morganton, Smithfield, Sylva, Troy and Shallotte.
