This is in reference to the request for a recommendation letter dated (date).

I wish to let you know that recommendation letters are best written by

colleagues or superiors who know you abilities and professional qualities

well. Since I am from a totally different profession and I hardly know you

from past month and that time was not enough to know your professional

skills. I think it is, not the right person to judge your merits and professional

abilities.

Please don’t take me wrong I know that you are very hard working and

dedicated in your work ,I have those information from different sources but

professionally if you ask me I will not be able to write as much as easily

compared to person one from your department. I feel really great that you

selected me to write a recommendation letter .I will not be able to write with

authority and clarity the qualities and your best points. I would suggest that

you should approach someone else.

It’s with regret I refuse to write this letter and I hope you understand the

reason fore declining.
