Getting married with us
When you choose to get married at the
NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages,
we give you the complete package—
from ceremony to the Marriage Certificate.
Where to begin?
Call us to arrange an appointment to lodge your
Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM).
When you book an interview, we provide you with a
checklist of what to bring for the interview.
One month before your marriage
We can arrange the date and time of your Marriage
Ceremony when we receive all the required
documents. The ceremony date needs to be at least
one calendar month after you lodge your NOIM.
Please fill out your NOIM before our meeting and
bring it with you. It is available on our website at:
www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/NOIM
What happens next?
Both bride and groom must attend the interview.
For each of you, both must provide:
Original passport
OR
Birth certificate and photo identification.
If previously married, you must provide original
evidence of the divorce, or the death certificate of the
deceased partner.
One journey shared by two
During the interview, our Marriage Officer guides you
through the whole process, answers all your
questions and makes sure your special day runs
smoothly. We look after all the legal requirements.
Privacy and disclosure of information
The Registry collects all the information on this form
under the provisions of the Births, Deaths and
Marriages Registration Act 1995 (NSW).
The Registrar may only release information about
a person for legal and law enforcement purposes,
under the provisions of the Act.

Options to lodge
You can have your marriage interview when you
lodge your NOIM. But, you must lodge your NOIM
at least one calendar month before the intended
ceremony.
