The Department operates 24 hours a day utilizing 4 groups of firefighters with each group working two 10-hour days, followed

by two 14-hour nights, and then 4 days off before repeating the 8 day cycle.

We maintain a “minimum staffing” of 10 firefighters, 2 lieutenants, and 1 captain per shift to staf f the city’s 3 fire stations

housing a compliment 3 front-line pumpers, 1 ladder truck, and 1 rescue truck. Each piece of apparatus is manned with 2

firefighters and pumpers are also staffed with an officer. When increased staffing permits, a 2nd ladder truck is placed in service.

During simultaneous inci dents or those requiring additional equipment or manpower, the Department recalls off duty manpower

by use of a pager system.
