assistance from the Southwest Corporate Fund to provide technology and
computereducationtounderprivilegedstudentsinCaloocanCity,Philippines.
To fulfill this mission, this proposal seeks financial ai d in the amount of
$20,000.00 for two public schools the Sta. Rita and the San Sebasti an High
Schools, located in Caloocan City. 60 % of students from these schools come
fromfamiliesofminimumwageearners.
Withyoursupport,some500teenagersintheareawillbe nefitbyhavingworking
knowledgeofcomputereducationprogramsandInternet.Thi snewknowledge

A.OrganizationalOverview
Sundridge Support’s mission is to bridge the technological gap between
privately funded schools and public schools (governmentrun schools) in the
Philippinesthatlackthebudgetforcomputereducationandtechnology.Located
about15 ki lometersfromthefinancial distri ctof Makati,the two publi c schools
we are focusing on are the Sta. Rita and San Sebastian public schools in
Caloocan City. These schools are in a lowincome community that consists of
some30,000families.
Withover1,000corporatevolunteers,SunridgeSupportcanofferabroadrange
of technolog yrelated services to the students. Their acquired computer
educationwillhelpimprove theirchancesofemploymentupongraduation.
B.Descrip tionofPrograms
Sunridge Support works to bring computer access, education and eco nomic
opportunities to high school students of both Sta. Rita and San Sebastian
schools.Theprogramwillbenefitatleast500lowincomestudentsinthearea.
Thetrainingfortheuseofthecomputersandbasicsoftwarewillbeman agedby
the corporate volunteers of Sunridge Support. The training will be offered after
schoolhourstotargetedstud ents.
ENTERPRISE:
Sunridge Support began as a volunteersupport organi zation, tapping into
corporate volunteers in two financial districts. We are funded by the monthly
contributionsofourcorporateandindividualmembersandhaveacorestaffof15
(fifteen).
ACCESS:
To ensurethat the studentshaveaccess tocompute rrela tedtechnologies, we
operateacomputercaféroomwithintheschools.Thisoperatessevendaysa
week for 60 hours. It offers Internet and research access; word processing,
graphicdesign,computertutorialsandtechnicalsupport.
C.PopulationGroupsServed
SunridgeSupportser vespeopleofallagesandbackgroundsi ntheMetroManila
area.We serveapproximately300peoplea week75%of whicharechildren
andteenagers.
Sunridge Support’s mission is to reach out to public schools by way of our
corporate volunteers’ skil ls. This has aided thousan ds of lowincome students
since 1990. Our volunteers have contributed their time for reading li teracy
programs,sportscoaching,fi eldoutings,cooking,bakingandsewing.
Despiteitsproximitytothefinancial district,thiscommunityhasnotreapedthe
benefitsofthetechnologi calrevolutiondueto:
· Limitedaccesstocomputertechnologyandcommunication:Atthemoment,
both Sta. Rita and San Sebastian High Schools have very limited number of
computersavailablefortheirstudents. Accordingtothehighschoolp rincipalof
Sta. Rita High School, the ratio is 80 students per 1 computer. On the other
hand, the headteacherfromSanSebastianHighSchoolhasreportedthat the
ratioforthemis75studentspercomputer. Bothschoolshavenointernetaccess
yet.
· Lowincome:Ourcommunityhasoneofthelowestpercapitaincomein
thecountry.
· Bleakjobmarket: Thenumberofunemployedpersonsi nJuly2006was
estimatedat2. 9mi llion,r esultingtoan unemploymentrateof8.0percent.
Males had a higher unemploymen t rate of 8.2 percent compared to
femalesat7.8percent.Theestimateof2.9millionunemployedpersons
was 7. 1 percent higher than the estimate for the same periodlast year.
Aboutfiftypercentoftheunemployedbelongedtoagegroup1524years.
One third of the total unemployed (33.0%) were high school graduates

D.ProjectDescription
Sunridge Support seeks $20,000 to fund its computer education classes for
teenagers.Webelievethat theearli er apersonisintroducedtotechnol ogythe
opportunitiesforeconomicadvancementwilllikewiseincrease.
Toensurethesuccessofthisprogram,we aretakinganeducationalapproach
withtheseelements:
*Outputoriented: Theclasseswillworkonspecificprojectsthatwillmeasurethe
output. The finished product for example, can be a newspaper article, a
PowerPoint presentation, or even a web page. By working on these types of
projects,studentswilllearnpracticalapplicationsoftheprogramstaught.
*Dynami c:Sincewewillbeworkingafter schoolhoursandbecauseourprogram
is not officially part of the school curriculum, our classes will be more open to
exploringsubjectmattersoutsideofthecurriculum.Wewillhowever,havelesson
plansand clearo bjectivesforea chclass.
*Teachertostudentratio:Weaimtohaveonevolunteerforeveryeightstudents.
Withthisratio,thecorporatevolunteercanattendmoretoeachstudent.Thiswill
alsoenablethestudentstobemorecomfortablewiththeirtimeont hecomputers
andtheirteacher.
*Skills enhancement: We believe that the use of technology enhances critical
thinking and other developmental skills such as spatial knowledge and artistic
capabilities.

E.ProjectEvaluation
Whileclasscontentmayvary,theprogram’sobject iveswillbemeasuredbythe
following:
1.Attendancesheets:Thesewillbecompiledandsubmittedo naweeklybasis.
2. Class diaries: Instructors will be required to have class diaries which will
document the da y’s lesson plans, activities and other notables. These will be
senttoandreviewedbySunridgeSupport’sboardmembers,staffandsponsors
throughemail.
F.Budgets
SunridgeSupportrequests$20,000onethirdofourbudgetforcomputerclasses
for young people. Our total budget for computer classes for children and
teenagersis$65,000.00.Eightypercentofallourclassesaretargetedtowards
thisagegroup.
