WILKES UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS
STUDENT ATHLETE SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY AND GUIDELINES
I have read and understand the Student Athlete Social Media Policy and Guidelines.
I understand if I am not in compliance with this policy there will be consequences to my actions.
I understand that I will be subject to the following penalties if my profile and its’ contents are
determined to be inappropriate.
(1) Written warning to be kept on file in the athletic department
(2) A meeting with the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach
(3) Penalties ranging from:
a. written apology
b. apology to team and coaching staff
c. restricted playing time
d. suspension from the team
e. dismissal from the team
For your own safety and well-being, please keep the following recommendations in mind when you
participate in a social media website:
(1) You should never post your email, campus address, home address, telephone number or other
personal information as it could lead to unwanted attention, stalking or identity theft.
(2) Exercise good judgment – be aware of who you add as a friend to your site. Many people look
to take advantage of student athletes or seek to make a connection with student athletes.
(3) Consider how the above behaviors can be reflected in all Facebook applications.
Whenever in doubt of the appropriateness of your online public material, consider the following; does
the content uphold and positively reflect your own values and ethics, and represent the standards
expected of a student athlete at Wilkes University. Keep in mind as a member of a team you are not
only representing yourself. You should strive to present a positive image to maintain your reputation
and avoid any embarrassment of yourself, the team, your family and the University.
By signing below you affirm that you understand the Wilkes University Athletics Social Media Policy
and Guidelines and the requirements as stated. Further, you affirm that failure to comply with the
policies and guidelines may result in consequences beyond the penalties listed above. Depending on the
severity of the offense sanctions may be imposed by the NCAA, the conference office and Wilkes
University.
