Information
This form is only for use by a licensed salvage vehicle dealer or licensed used automotive parts recycler. Licensed metal
recyclers must use the Surrendered Ownership Evidence for Vehicles Permanently Destroyed (Form VTR-340-M).
A salvage vehicle dealer or used automotive parts recycler must submit this form with the properly assigned ownership
evidence for each listed motor vehicle to a Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) Regional Service Center. This form
must be submitted before the 31st day after the salvage or nonrepairable vehicle is acquired for the purpose of dismantling,
scrapping, or destroying (Transportation Code, Section 501.1003, and Texas Administrative Code, Section 217.86). Retain a
copy of this form until the acknowledged copy is returned by the TxDMV.
If the ownership evidence for a motor vehicle is a title, the person or entity transferring the motor vehicle must complete
the assignment on the title as the “seller.” If the vehicle is subject to odometer disclosure, the seller must also disclose the
odometer reading, and the salvage vehicle dealer or used automotive parts recycler must acknowledge the disclosure as the
“purchaser.” Federal law specifies a motor vehicle is subject to odometer disclosure if it is self-propelled, less than 10 years
old, and has a gross vehicle weight of 16,000 pounds or less.
Any license plates and registration stickers removed from these motor vehicles may be destroyed upon return of this form
acknowledged by a TxDMV representative in the “Department Receipt” section. Until this form is acknowledged, the salvage
vehicle dealer or used automotive parts recycler must store all license plates and registration stickers in a secure location.
A salvage vehicle dealer or used automotive parts recycler is required to keep, on the business premises, a record of each
vehicle that is dismantled, scrapped, or destroyed, and a photocopy of the front and back of the ownership evidence
submitted to the department until the fourth anniversary of the date this form was filed with the department. Retain the
TxDMV acknowledged copy with your records.
Note: A vehicle reported on this form is considered a nonrepairable motor vehicle and cannot be repaired, reconstructed,
made operable, or retitled. The body and frame of a nonrepairable motor vehicle cannot be used to assemble, build,
construct, rebuild, or reconstruct another motor vehicle.
